Meet Angelique Pillar, MDMary Jane Vance Fellowship Educator, Ophthalmologist
Raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, she attended Yale University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology. She received her medical degree from Harvard Medical School and completed her Ophthalmology residency at the University of Maryland where she was elected Chief Resident and voted Outstanding Resident in Ophthalmology. She studied cutting edge corneal and refractive surgery at the world famous Cleveland Clinic and brings her skills back to our patients in Maryland.
As Director of Research, Dr. Pillar has authored numerous journal articles and book chapters on cornea and refractive surgery. She has been awarded grants to present the results of her research at multiple national scientific meetings. Dr. Pillar is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the International Society of Refractive Surgery, and the Cornea Society. Her current research interests include extending tissue utilization in endothelial keratoplasty, new technology for dry eye, and improving quality of laser vision correction.
Dr. Pillar loves living in Ellicott City for its great schools and activities for young families. She is an accomplished pianist and holds a black belt in karate. In her free time, she enjoys playing tennis, running, and cooking Thai and Turkish cuisine with her husband and very hungry young son. She looks forward to providing you with the highest quality medical and surgical eye care in the Baltimore region.
